Football-ese
My son got a funny pack of football cards for his birthday. There are all kinds of years and players and teams. It is more than one year's worth - just kind of random players and teams - probably 50 cards in all.
He carries them around and studies them and asks me questions.
"Does FB stand for Fullback?"
"Is Brett Farve still alive?"
"Some teams are cities, like Chicago, and some teams are places, like New England, right? Who decides?"
"Look at the back of this card, mom," he says, pointing at the stats. "Did he play for all these teams?"
"There's lots of bird teams, aren't there? Falcons, Eagles, Seahawks..."
It occured to me today that he is learning a language.
